Keywords: waste reduction; re-use; eco-friendly production;

Waste management remains an important challenge for local authorities and private sector organizations.
The mass retailers can make a significant contribution to the reduction of waste as they have a strong purchasing power and can thus influence, for example, the packaging policies. Moreover they can raise environmental awareness among consumers and thus reduce waste production.

Main actions
- Mapping the best experiences of waste reduction in mass retailers already developed at national and international level
- Developing a waste reduction plan, to be tested with the mass retailers in the Municipalities of Reggio Emilia and Trento
- Implementing a feasibility study for the creation of a “re-use center” which allows the recovery of reusable item

Regolamento Verde

Keywords: green spaces; environment; regulation

The Regulation of Private and Public Green is a tool of the Municipality of Reggio Emilia, born in 2006, for the protection and management of public and private green establishing clear patterns of behavior and measures in order to respect the tree heritage. After a few years of experimentation it was made a revision, changing the aspects that can contribute to the effectiveness of the Regulations. If the Regulation is not respected, both citizens and associations can report the fact to the Service Care, which will transmit the notification to the inspection staff.
The new version of the Regulation introduced some new aspects in order to improve the effectiveness of the Regulation itself as:
the introduction of the principle of "environmental compensation" for tree felling
the improvement of sanction system
the enrollment of Ecological Guard of Legambiente and the security guards of Pro Natura
more responsibility to green maintenance operators
the update and education of citizens and the green operators as the priority tasks of the City.
